Between the 14th and 16th September, the Trading Standards Service will be participating in a National Campaign aimed at helping consumers be aware of their legal rights and offering handy tips when buying a second hand car.
The campaign follows National research carried out by the Office of Fair Trading into the purchasing of used vehicles and an increase nationally in complaints received by Trading Standards.
Trading Standards will display a vehicle in the shopping prescient in Merthyr Tydfil town centre from Tuesday, 14th until Thursday, 16th September, to help consumers to identify tell tale signs to look for to avoid making a bad purchase. Trading Standards Officers will also be on hand to offer advice and assistance on matters such as where to buy and how to pay, and the importance of examining documents such as log books and being able to pick out vital information.
Deputy Leader of Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council and Portfolio Member for Customer Services, Councillor Tony Rogers said: “Next to buying a home the purchase of a car will probably be the most expensive purchase a consumer will make. Hopefully, following Trading Standards helpful tips will ensure trouble free motoring for Merthyr Tydfil consumers”
